Camping
La Taillade is an ancient farm which nowadays forms the base of a
recreational centre and camping with around 100 varied pitches. The emphasis of
the camping is to impact as minimally as possible on the environment. Many of
the pitches are in the shade but there is a choice to suit all tastes. The
facilities are simple but functional to compliment the surrounding nature. The
camping consists of a reception building with adjacent indoor games area, a
small restaurant and terrace seating up to 40 people at a time. There is an old
bread oven where bread is baked every week as well as a swimming pool and
paddling pool with sunbathing area. Scattered about the site are fresh water
taps, sanitary blocks with toilets and hot showers as well as sinks for washing
up and laundry. Electricity is available to all pitches. There is a small
grocery store where you can buy fresh bread and essentials. Click on the views

Your dog is welcome at La
Taillade, too!
Chalets
La Taillade has 10 chalets of Delta design. Each comprises a double bed with two
singles on the first floor with a pull-out double divan in the living area.
There is a kitchenette with cooker and fridge with a toilet and shower adjacent.
There is a table and benches inside with table and chairs on the terrace. Also a
heater for the colder evenings out of the main season.
Animation La
Taillade lends itself to numerous possibilities for discovering Le Cantal: the
Aubrac cows, the extinct volcanoes of the Massif Central; the ancient towns and
villages and the people, who, may on first encounter appear a little reticent,
are warm and friendly.
For
the ardent cyclist, La Taillade offers many wonderful routes encompassing narrow
and often steep roads through the mountains – definitely not for the
faint-hearted!
There
are frequent outings to the lake for sailing and canoeing on the reservoirs of
the Truyere.
The oven at the camping is used once a week during the
high season. You can bake your own bread and pizzas.
During
the main season, there is a weekly barbecue which is very well attended. These
are always very pleasant evenings often accompanied by musical entertainment
from some of the campers. Jean Michel Loosfelt, who has enjoyed camping at this
beautiful site for over 20 years has a collection of interesting musical
instruments, all of which he can play. These include flutes, bagpipes, lyres and
accordions. Jean Michel stays for about 4 weeks every year and is well known on
the camping.
Pony trekking
is also available at La Taillade which owns dozens of horses and ponies which
are allowed to roam freely in the fields surrounding the camping.
There are
canoes and kayaks at the riverside, but they cannot always be used. That depends
of the activities at the dams; sometimes the level of the water is too low.
