La Taillade

The Surroundings

La Taillade is at the edge of the Massif Central. A short journey in the car or by bike if you like, will take you to the beginning of some fantastic walks. The Prat du Bouc is less than an hour away and is the start of a magnificent walk to the summit of the Plomb du Cantal. Allow about two hour’s gentle stroll to the top: climbing boots are not necessary. On a clear day, from the top, you will see the beautiful Cantal and even the top of Mont Blanc over 200 miles away, with the assistance of binoculars.

If you’re keen on climbing, try the Puy Griou whose summit is not as high as Le Plomb: it’s much harder to reach, especially the final 250m! Worth considering also are Le Puy Marie, Peyre Arse or one of the other peaks. The tourist office in Neuvéglise will be pleased to assist you.

Viaduc de Garibi, it exists since more than a hundred years, designed by Mr. Gustave Eiffel. Yes, exactly! The same one!

The Cantal is famous for its quiet, natural beauty and rich flora and fauna. Here you will see the most beautiful plants, lizards, snakes, birds and toads also deer and wild boar.

If you don’t like hiking in the mountains, La Taillade has much more to offer. For instance a walk to the Gorges du Bes: choose the unforgettable Route Espagnol. If you’re unsure of where to go, then there is great booklet by Noel Brun, the founder of La Taillade camping, written about 20 years ago, full of interesting and out-of-the-way places. It is available at the reception in French and Dutch giving information on interesting cultural and historic visits.

No matter what, you will enjoy your stay at La Taillade: the beautiful natural surroundings; the rolling countryside of hills and mountains; ancient town and villages with farms of dry stone walls; old churches and friendly people. There is far too much to mention here, so come and find out for yourself!
